Morten Kjaersgaard (Denmark) has finished solo RAAM to become only the second Dane to do so in the age 50-59 category—his finish came just six hours after Palle Nielsen became the first Dane to finish in the 50-59’s.
Kjaergaard’s finish was a nail-biter, coming down to the absolute limit of the cut-off—his finish time is 12 days flat at an average of 10.66 mph.
After posting DNF’s (Did Not Finish) in RAAM 2012 and 2014 Morten Kjaersgaard is thrilled to have reached Annapolis Kjaersgaard’s 2012 RAAM ended in Durango, some 850 miles from the start. His 2014 RAAM went much better. In a pre-race interview he said, “I had a blast in RAAM 2014,” he related. “It was overall a really wonderful experience. But with 270 kilometers to go and with three hours to go to the time cut-off there was no way I could make it to the finish line before.
Congratulations to Morten. I’ll share more of his RAAM 2016 story in the post-RAAM wrap-ups that will appear here over the coming days and weeks.
